It's very interesting post. Having dropped fireworks many years ago when I could actually afford real copy photoshop. I wondered why adobe kept making it. I have not thought to go back and check it out.

I will definitely go have another look at some of its features. Will be very interesting to see how hard it would be to transition my work flow back to it.

I became a Fireworks Evangelist for web design since Photoshop's workflow is so unproductive from sketching to releasing.

As for emailings: by using fireworks html & export features, you can decrease by half the time you need to integrate a design.

I think you're right on with your assessment of Fireworks. Fireworks CS4 will soon start its take over of that niche in the market. I was never impressed with Fireworks until its latest version. I've been trying to use it since the days of Macromedia, but it just never fit well in my tool belt. Do I use Photoshop, ImageReady, Illustrator, or Fireworks? But now Adobe has made it no-brainer. Its most enticing feature for me personally is its ability to make a working clickable prototype of a concept complete with drop down menus, hovers, etc. I've also used it to create clickable pdf's. It makes presentation so much easier. And frankly, in my opinion, Fireworks is the one reason to upgrade from CS3 to CS4.
